This brass item looks just like any sewing bird one might find in a tailor's shop.

Even though it looks completely innocuous, the Sewing Bird of Sowing is a powerful magic item that can be used to create a magical item of clothing.

To do so, you have to initiate a ritual that takes one hour. You will need the Sewing Bird of Sowing, the non-magical article of clothing that you wish to enspell, and materials worth 100 gp that will be used up during the ritual. There are a number of options during the ritual that all have their own requirements, you are free to choose which of the options to use and which not to.

You can only do the ritual once; at the end the Sewing Bird of Sowing will lose all its magic and the item of clothing will now be a magical item that needs to be attuned to, to use any of its abilities.

Ritual Options

Note that any mention of 'item' below refers to the item of clothing you are enspelling. Also note that any donors mentioned below might not be willing to participate in the ritual, it is up to you to convince or restrain them.

Bloodlines

You infuse the item with the blood of a creature to give it a certain ability. You need about a quarter pint of blood, this could be done by cutting the palm of a hand and then holding onto the item for a few minutes. Alternatively you could use blood collected earlier, the blood needs to be fresh though; no more than 12 hours old.

Depending on the race of the donor's blood, the item gets a certain ability. Unfortunately the Sewing Bird of Sowing doesn't say which race bestows what ability.

Enhance Material

The ritual enhances the main property of the material the item is made of. For instance; if the material is particularly strong it might give a bonus to AC, if it has fire-retardant properties it might give resistance to fire, etc. Note that if the item is made of cheap, mundane material, there might be nothing to enhance.

Lifeforce

During the ritual the item animates and kills a person/creature of your choice, usually by choking them. It doesn't move under its own power so you will need to place the item on the donor. The item then gains the ability to use an action to bestow temporary hit points on the wearer once per long rest. The number of hp is equal to 3 times the level of the person/creature.

Talent Steal

You have a donor wear the item during the ritual for at least ten minutes and one, and no more than one, of the donor's 'talent' gets stolen and infused in the item, bestowing it on the wearer. Talents that can be stolen are skills, feats, and class abilities.

Should a skill be stolen then the item bestows proficiency in the skill on the wearer. If the wearer is already proficient in the skill, it bestows expertise in the skill, as the Rogue ability. Should the wearer already have expertise with the skill then no benefit is bestowed.

The donor whose talent was stolen loses access to it permanently; they can't learn it again unless the item is destroyed. Should the donor die, you lose access to the stolen talent. However, the item can then be used for another hour long ritual, which doesn't need any other materials, to steal the ability from another donor. Note that at this point it can't steal any other talent, only the one that you lost access to.

Visual Flourish

You can add a stylish flourish to the item. You do so by wearing it during the ritual and then either perform the flourish or visualize it in your mind. It depends on the item what kind of flourishes are possible; a cloak could billow or swish, a hat could spin, a vest could straighten, etc.

Once the item is ready you can use a bonus action to make it flourish the way you implanted.
