This desert, in the center of the Godfall, is the result of an event known as the Collapse.

It was once the site of Banad-Gathol, the capital of the dwarven realm of Baltur. The city was built on five hills with an artificial lake below it. When the Collapse happened and the sky fell down, a blast so hot it vaporized the lake, rushed thousands of miles in all directions.

These days there is almost no evidence of anything having ever been there. Buildings were razed to their foundations and nothing is able to grow there, even after all these centuries. It is just a cold, empty stretch of land that is avoided by anything alive.
