Known to us by this rather euphemistic term, the Kasarians refer to it as the Reckoning, which they claim was not to be postponed indefinitely.

This war was one as never seen in the history of the world. In a short time one small country subjugated most of the civilized world through battles of mostly magical might supported by berserker warriors who fought to the death without a second thought.

About a century after the Collapse, the nation of Kasar invaded its neighbors to the north and conquered them without even a single field battle. A new magical race of people, called tieflings, had appeared in Kasar, and a new sort of mage, the sorcerer, was developed there as well. This combination proved incredibly powerful in the numbers available to the Kasarian leadership.

The first nations fell in a surprise attack but other countries were warned now, even if they couldn't quite believe the stories coming from those who had fled the conflict. Most of these tiefling sorcerers weren't all that powerful but when you have fifty of them to every single mage the opposition has, the end result becomes inevitable.

Some countries put up quite the defense and Kasar certainly took some losses but when the opposition was particularly tough, the Circle sent one or more of their own, all arch-mages, and most certainly the most powerful spellcasters in the world at that time. If it had not been for logistics and the fact that an army moves on its stomach, the conquest would have been finished a lot sooner.

As it is, it took less than a century until all countries were either defeated or had surrendered. The mystical might of Kasar meant they did not have to fear leaving a conquered opponent without an occupying force; at any signs of unrest they would be able to teleport in an elite hit-squad to deal with any fomenters.

After conquering a nation the Circle decided upon a levy that was to be paid to Kasar for eternity. Though not insignificant, it was never so high as to bankrupt a country. Many still balked at this levy but the Circle proved they could hit hard and fast. Any government refusing or reneging on the deal was swiftly attacked by tiefling sorcerers striking out of nowhere, targeting those in command.

Another thing the Kasarians did was leave behind embassies in every major city, and staffed with a lot more personnel than any regular embassy. It was no secret that all Kasarian embassies contained a quite capable force of fighters and spellcasters, with plenty of spies to go around as well.

The fact that they never renegotiated the levies can be seen as either a sign of weakness or intelligence; in any event, now that the levy has become quite small compared to any nation's income, no one has seen cause to go to war over it and test Kasar's current might. And Kasar still takes in a fortune every year when you look at all levies combined.

Interestingly, remarkably few records exist of the Kasarian Conflict, the battles, the 'surgical strikes', or the aftermath.
