This small box holds a set of three, coloured plano lenses. Each metal rimmed with a tiny square handle. The impeccable quality of the glass suggests it’s elven made, but the exquisite metal rims suggest dwarven.
Most likely this has been a collaboration between elven and dwarven craftsmen.

The box is given to Dauphine by her great-grandfather. He can’t tell you much about it the lenses. Which is no surprise he just may have forgotten as he got them very long ago.

During the day the lenses can be used to see contrast. The lenses only let through a very small bandwidth of light contrast is much easier to see. Because of this they are highly sought after by artists and outdoor painters.

Your grandfather however used them on nightly mushroom hunts. All elves can see in the dark, but only in tones of grey. By using the lenses in the dark one can determine colours. Which is very useful when picking mushrooms at night because a difference in colour can mean the difference between a righteous feast or the runs (or worse).

When preparing to leave on your quests he pulls you away for a moment. He knows your love for foraging is great and hands you the box. “Keep them safe, and whenever you sit with your new friends around a campfire with a bowl of mushroom stew think of me and of our friends here”
