A thief for hire that comes from a long line of powerfull and rich gnomish wizards and uses his powers to make a nice bit of coin and have some fun on the side with the ocassional prank. 

His ultimate goal is to steal back an important magic family heirloom(a Book or such) that was stolen from his family years earlier. He was instructed by his family to get it back he decided to master the art of thievery himself in order to do so but perhaps got a bit to much fun out of it and sort of forgot about getting the heirloom back. 

In reality the family hired someone to steal the heirloom so that they would have an excuse to kick him out since they tought that he would make for a lousy wizard.(revealed in game) 

While learning the art of thievery he managed to hone his limited magical abilities which aided them in in his gigs. 

When he eventually finds the thief he discovers that he has been duped and decides to use his magical prowess and roguish skills to steal his family's fortunes and tarnish their reputation in various scemes and pranks.
